NHS Eligibility

You qualify for a free NHS-funded sight test if: 

  • Aged under 16

  • Aged 16, 17 or 18 and are in full-time education

  • Aged 60 or over

  • Registered as partially sighted (sight impaired) or blind (severely sight impaired)

  • Currently diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma

  • Aged 40 or over, and your mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter has been diagnosed with glaucoma

  • Eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher – your optometrist (optician) can advise you about your entitlement

You are also entitled to a free NHS sight test if you or your partner recieve:

  • Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income-based Employment and Support Allowance

  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit

  • A valid Tax Credit Exemption Certificate

  • Universal Credit and meet the criteria

  • An NHS HC2 certificate

  • An NHS HC3 certificate (for partial help with optical costs)

 

NHS Optical Voucher

You qualify for an optical voucher for help towards the cost of your glasses or contact lenses if:

  • Aged under 16

  • Aged 16, 17 or 18 and are in full-time education

  • Eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher – your optometrist (optician) can advise you about your entitlement

You are also entitled to an NHS optical voucher if you or your partner recieve:

  • Income Support

  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • Income-based Employment and Support Allowance

  • Pension Credit Guarantee Credit

  • A valid Tax Credit Exemption Certificate

  • Universal Credit and meet the criteria

  • An NHS HC2 certificate

  • An NHS HC3 certificate (for partial help with optical costs)
